Research Recruitment at Macquarie

Guidelines for conducting research at Macquarie University

The following guidelines are provided to researchers to ensure they are aware of the requirements for undertaking such research with Macquarie University staff or students.

Recruiting Macquarie University Staff or Students – Internal Researchers

If the researcher is a member of staff or a student at Macquarie University and wishes to circulate a recruitment email for a research project via a specific Departmental email list or Faculty email list the researcher:

  1. must have approval from the Ethics Committee for the research as a whole
  2. must attach a letter/email from the Head of Department/Executive Dean of Faculty approving circulation for the email using the relevant email list

If the email is to be sent University wide then:

  1. Approval is required from the Ethics Committee for the research
  2. Approval is required from DVC (Research) for distribution of email. DVC (Research) will usually request evidence of approval from Ethics Committee before agreeing to distribution of this email.

Recruiting Macquarie University Staff or Students – External Researchers

If the researcher is external to Macquarie University and wants to recruit Macquarie University staff and/or students from a particular Department or Faculty then the researcher:

  1. Must have approval from the Macquarie University Ethics Committee as well as their own institution. Macquarie has an expedited review system that can deal with such a situation quickly and would NOT require the researcher to complete the MQ application form as well.
  2. Attached to the request for approval from the Ethics Committee should be a letter/email from the Head of Department/Executive Dean of Faculty approving circulation for the email using the relevant email list.
  3. If the email is to be sent University wide then approval is required from the Ethics Committee for the research and approval is required from DVC (Research) for distribution of the email. The DVC (Research) will usually request evidence of approval from Ethics Committee before agreeing to the distribution of the email.
